I contacted them and was told to make sure it was a legit rep I worked with because there are multiple scammers using their company name and stealing money from people (wish this warning was on the website) turns out by following their instructions I paid “headquarters” directly and though I filled out an application was told they’re not connected and I needed to fill out the “headquarters” application.

I went direct to website and followed the instructions on how to join, paid through paypal with email in instructions and didn’t hear anything for two weeks. It's not a great site and seems to attract damaged, lost, hurting people and plenty of cheaters. I took down my photo as it seemed to attract a lot of people (no, I am not beautiful, I think there are just a lot of weirdos and desperate people on here). I wrote some people who never write back, which ofc is a hazard. The one guy who seemed very cool was blocked for no reason that I could see. I have yet to make a single real friend on this site. I was also hit up by women from foreign countries who clearly are looking for someone to help them out financially. Desperate? Criminals? Scammers? Probably. Some very strange men on here, some of whom hit you up right away with their phone numbers. You get hit on and scammed left and right.
I put up looking for both male/female penpals, and it didn't matter. Mine stated I was looking for a male friend only, but it didn't matter. A lot of the men here don't read your profile. One clearly wanted some sort of emotional attachment to another woman that was unhealthy. I was hit on by a number of men (more than a few married) looking to exchange messages. It is mostly IMO, a place for men to cheat.

This site is basically full of creeps, desperate sex addicts, scammers and losers, who view PPW as "International Tinder!" After 7 months, I have yet to find a single friend from any country! My advice is stay away, and find another recourse, if you really want pen-pals. No one legitimate wants to learn from you or be friends. As a guy, I would get contacted by desperate gays, and young woman from Eastern Europe, thinking they could scam me. 95% of the profile photos are fake, and nothing more than syndicated pics from the web.
To say this experience (7 months) has been a waste of time, is the understatement of the century! I never found a single friend on this site, and was contacted non stop by scammers. " Like most people who join PPW, I really wanted to find pen-pals and learn about other countries, customs, foods, language etc. It appears others have had a similar experience with this "site.
